Staff/Core Volunteers

Executive Director

John McGahJohn McGah, MSPA, is the founder and Executive Director of Give US Your Poor. He is also a Senior Associate at American Institutes for Research where he directs and works on various projects addressing homelessness in the U.S. In 2002, he became an Eisenhower Fellow which allowed him to study homelessness in Eastern and Western Europe. John has worked closely with community leaders across the United States and with national homeless organizations; shelter directors and staff; homelessness advocates; scholars; city, state and federal policy makers, and homeless people. He speaks nationally on the issue at conferences, to community groups, and has appeared on TV news shows and NPR. In 2009, he spent a year in Mexico with his family focusing intensely on issues of leadership, sustainability, and systems-thinking. He developed and teaches a yearly graduate seminar on Systems Thinking at UMass Boston's McCormack Graduate School of Policy & Global Studies.

John is a singer/guitarist in the Wait, an original roots rock and roll band. He likes a lot of music but is a very big fan of the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen. (He kind of talks about the Beatles and Bruce a little too much.)
